I've lived here for more than 25 years and I still love it. After the hectic life out there I feel like I'm coming home to a totally different life. Calm, the nature, water scenery. I feel so blessed and soo lucky to call this my home.

Moved in to these apartments in June and have been very happy with the management. The units are beautiful. You can't control "apartment living" at its best when you live under other people, but management has been very helpful in with my issues and complaints. And rent is extremely competitively priced. Very happy with my decision to live here.

The actual property manager is good but REALSTAR is slow to respond to urgent matters, there is no real recourse for a tenant other than to hound their immediate property manager, who is limited by what head office lets them do. For EXAMPLE: OVER ONE YEAR to fix my fridge OVER 4 months to fix a dryer As my washing machine sits full of water, I have been waiting over a week for a repair. In the world of building management, this is disgusting. LIGHTBULBS IN STAIRWAY / non working fixture....so long I can't even remember. In the odd case like getting the ac fixed, it was fast. HEATING: OLD!! They won't update is and it is ELECTRIC FORCED AIR They simply don't care.

I 100% agree with Jen Duval. Surprised that no one has written a review about this place. When I booked an appointment to look at the apartment, the landlord, she was super nice. She was so understanding. But the minute I decided to live with people who were already living there as Western students, she does 360 on me. So rude, and I mean very disrespectful. But I didn't think much of it because I didn't think I would have to face her after that. On my move-in date, I was with my parents, and the landlord acted so aggressively, like words can't even describe how me and my parents felt. My parents were just so shocked because they never dealt with these kind of landlord before. Honestly, the building is really really old, and it has really bad smell to it the moment you walk in. But seriously, the moment I had to deal with the landlord, that's the moment I've realized I had to leave this place asap. I regret the fact that I've already signed the lease and didn't do my research before coming here..

Worst rental ever!! Disgusting place found 26 mice so far. Rotten counters, mold , worn out carpet, ancient windows and tile floors. They will not do any work until you move out if if you have been a Tennant for over a decade with no problems. $1400. Month for a 2bdm But they try to tell you nothing in your yard or they will throw it away on you. PS.after a year they charge you the increase on last month rent but don't give you the interest on the last month, ILLEGAL!!!!

It took 34 days to receive my Security Deposit back from Realstar. We were told May 10th, 2016 that our apartment was vacant for the month of May when in fact it was already re-rented and occupied. Even after contacting the District Manager May 11th regarding my Security Deposit, it still took until June 1st 2016 to receive it.

Rented this place for a year, then decided to upgrade to another unit in the building. Signed the papers and submitted a deposit for suite transfer. All verified and all good right? so I cancelled all remaining viewings I had with other places. Two weeks before move-in they contacted me telling me they accidentally double booked both suites by one day, and since they already offered my suite to a new tenant but the old tenant of the new suite would not have moved out yet. They made absolutely no effort to accommodate their f**k up. Hotel for one night? nope. negotiate with the new/old tenants? nope. let me store my stuff in storage lockers for one night? nope let me keep my car in the garage with my stuff and sleep in car for one night? nope too bad! your problem now. Some staff don't respect taking shoes off when entering apartment for inspection either, even with a sign at the door and instructions to the management office. Top manager and other staff caught on camera. The property managers may not have the authority, but the general manager made zero effort to correct the situation. Good thing I was able to restart my search and found a better apartment elsewhere, no need to start legal action.

Don't. Just don't. Looks cheap, looks worth it. It's not. The building manager is shockingly unprofessional. (Get used to her shouting, "THIS ISN'T MY PROBLEM!" or "I DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS!" or "DO IT YOURSELF!") Honestly shocking. Don't do it.

I had a good time living here. The apartments were okay but dirty. But if that was the only thing I remembered or happened here it would easily be a two star. But here I had memories of playing outside everyday in the summer time. It was fun we played everyday and we always got ice cream from the truck. I always missed that awesome experience.

Southwood apartments= Silver fish apartments ...YUCK!!!! This apartment has the rudest manager ever ,Cecile. She is always behaving you in a way that you dont dare to ask her for any maintenance work. Once I aksed her to change the door knob which fell down, she asked me thousnds of questions regarding WHY it fell down, how, when, why, and I had to promise that it wont happen again!!!! All the units are full of silver fishes, the laundry room is also full of these insects which are biting your clothes. If you want to move here, be aware that she is behaving like the OWNER of the apartments and dont let you feel you are at home! I personally have the feeling of a real TENANT here.

The rental manager was condescending to me when I had a leak in my bathroom but after telling her I felt mistreated she's been pleasant. They haven't been giving me updates on when it's getting fixed etc. But other than this leak situation I've never had any issues. The rest of the staff have been quite pleasant.

The worst place ever!!! If you like to live in noisy and trashy place : Go for it! The place is very expensive but you are not getting anything back for your money. Management is changing about every three months and is not willing to do anything for the renters. It was a terrible experience to live there and I would not recommend it to anyone! If I could give them minus points I would do this without a second thought!

This is a shitty apartment. If I could go back in time I would NOT live here. The managers are aggressive, rude and entirely unhelpful. They were really nice to me when I was viewing the apartment which is why I lived here but they changed their attitude literally as I was moving in. They are required BY THE LEASE AGREEMENT to paint the apartment but they did not paint mine when I moved in. This apartment is stupidly overpriced considering the wooden floor is damaged in all three rooms and the wall in my bedroom has a big nasty crack in it. Save your self and live somewhere else!!

This place is falling apart and when they do fix something, they make it inconvenient for the residents. They say they are trying to minimize the disruption but I don't think they really care. On top of that, the rent has been going up each year, even though we often don't have access to the amenities they advertise. The bottom line ($$), not the resident satisfaction, seems to be the main concern here; I don't think it is a coincidence they stopped distributing the JD Power Residence Survey in the last two years.

When you go for rent, the way they will behave...Amazing. To rent, they will ask this and that, how much you earn, how long you been working, lots of questions but once you move in, you will find out... .Bad neighborhood, dirty, stinky, cockroach,. Lots of tenants have pets and they do their business (pee) in the hallway, elevator. And they always do this in front of our apartment. Complaint about this but management did not take any actions. Its like they don't give a f***. I sent emails to them..no reply.

I've been at this place for a month now. It sucks. Management is nice until you move in and then you're on your own. I paid to have my lock changed, they gave me keys that didn't work. They changed the lock again, it worked for a few days then broke. Now they're refusing to fix it and I've been leaving my apartment unlocked while I'm at work. Don't move in.

I have lived in the Calgary Place Apartments west tower since July, 2013.  I first rented the apartment for convenience, as I was working downtown and the price was mostly affordable at the time (still a bit steep for what it was worth.  I think I paid $875 for a small 1bdrm).  The place I was living in the Beltline was undergoing road and building construction, and I wanted to leave as it was loud and I mostly worked nights.  I thought I would be escaping the noise by moving in to a highrise in a cement building, but I was completely wrong.  Nevermind the cheap, old windows and frames that keep out absolutely no noise (prepare to sleep with earplugs or white noise at any time of day), constant construction from apartments around you (because the constantly need repairs to aging plumbing and cosmetics), slamming doors, strange people wandering the building, fire alarms constantly going off - you name it.The water gets shut off almost weekly - with no regard for people who don't work a regular schedule (they couldn't do it over night?  Too cheap to pay anyone off regular hours), the heat didn't work two winters in a row with no care for their tenants comfort, the elevators (which are fixed now, were constantly breaking down - leaving me to walk 26 stories often), the pool opens for a week and then closes again due to water quality issues (and is freezing cold anyway), the ceiling in the mailroom burst open one time when I was in there...nearly hitting me with a chunk of plaster.  I've had numerous problems with my plumbing - my kitchen sink backed up leaving green sludge in my sink that wouldn't drain, the drain stinks as well (if I don't use it for a few days it makes my apartment smell like death), the toilet needed repairs to keep it from running constantly or flooding.  Everything needs a new coat of paint, new carpet, new fixtures, new everything - yet I will be paying $1365 for the last month before I move out in June 2015. The icing on the cake to finally get me to leave - is the apartment upstairs having plumbing issues for the last few months.  As I work late nights, I woke up one morning to find someone working on my bathroom (not sure what they were doing) while I was sleeping.  As a female living alone, I naturally freaked out.  I kicked him out of my apartment (there was no notice of repairs, no 24 hour request, no indication there was an emergency plumbing issue in the adjoining apartment that I was notified of in advance).  An hour later the maintenance man and his manager came back to basically YELL AT ME for kicking him out.  I told him to come back in 24 hours and that no one would be allowed in my apartment without notice.  Recently, the upstairs apartment has been having plumbing issues, as to which the office called me one morning when I was sleeping to request that someone come in for emergency repairs in my apartment which somehow have to do with the upstairs.  I said no, as I was working nights again and to come back the next day.  Well, halfway through the next day, no one had showed up yet.  I called the office to see why this "emergency" hadn't been taken care of yet, and was told someone would be by in the next few hours.  Some emergency...  So someone came by and knocked a hole out above my showerhead and left plaster and bits all around the bathroom for ME to clean.  A few weeks later (this Monday as I'm writing this Wednesday morning), I had no water pressure in my shower only, and at that time noticed that the hole had MOLD growing in it that I hadn't noticed earlier.  I requested that someone fix my water pressure, and as I write this, I still don't have a properly working shower.  So, you have been warned...don't look at the new renovations to the apartment (mine hasn't been renovated since I've been there for 2.5 years - but I still pay the same as everyone else...), the laundry room, the pool, the convenient location - this place is not worth even half of what you will pay.  On top of the expensive rent, you must pay $175/monthly to Impark - which has constant repairs, a lack of parking space due to reserved spots, and break-ins constantly (no, it is not secure parking for what you pay).  You apartment will smell like your neighbours dinner, you will go without water at least once a week, the neighbourhood is ghetto and sketchy, the C-train is obnoxious, you'll have to deal with extreme noise at all times of day.  Your money is better spent in a better maintained building which actually cares about their tenants.

This place used to be managed properly, but since a new couple started managing in 2013 it has gone down hill. Sometimes you have to submit three requests to have any repair done. There was bedbugs issues since the new managers have appeared. In the winter, like the previous reviewer said, heat is generated from Toronto, so your apt. will always be on the cold side. Snow removal is almost non existant now and is always late. Don't be fooled by the lobby. The lobby is always cleaned and revamped to give the building a nice image, but beyond that loby, everything is a mess. The laudry rooms still have equipment dating back to the early 1990s... and the wait for an elevator will drive you nuts after a few months... avoid at all costs!

Had an appointment today to see these apartments. Very nice. Clean, big and updated. Right across from a big park. The superintendent was friendly, gave me a great tour and no BS from him like another place I went to. I was hoping to see some other tenants so I could ask what they think about it but didn't get a chance. I liked it and think I will go for it. The apartments were a nice size and I like the whole setting, warm like.

The apartment is well maintained but old and the kitchen is too small , we hate the carpets but the worse thing is that the apartment isn't sound proof at all!! u can hear everything from the neighbors upstairs. We pay for the view is beautiful , is more quiet outside then inside of the unit.

Ken and I (Marlene) lived here 7-8 yrs ago...we resided on Church St. We are back and living on Maria, because the area is fantastic. Our supers are the best. The place inside and out are kept immaculate. In the winters the lots are well plowed and maintained. They create a theme for each season in the foyer...how cool. The buildings have redone on the outside...they look fantastic.

My bf and I recently moved from our one bedroom to a two bedroom within the same building.  Understandably  the rental office wanted the two bedroom rented ASAP. As we were unable to pay rent on two units we agreed to take the 2BR from the middle of the month to help the budget a bit, and decided on a specific date.  From here on is where things get a bit bumpy.  They needed us to do certain things prior to the move (paperwork etc) however they never communicated to us timeframes.  Then suddenly we're being told if they don't have XYZ done RIGHT NOW the deal is over.  A sound business practice is to clearly define deadlines, time frames and anything that is time sensitive.  This was not our experience.  One person in the office asked for certain information and forms completed a certain way.  When we handed them in we're told they're not sufficient by someone else.  The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Due to delays in their preparing our new unit we were a day late in getting the keys.  Not a huge deal.  A bit frustrating but not a big deal. We still have our other unit so it's not like we were without somewhere to be.We started moving our stuff right away, however because we've still got the second  unit until the end of the month we weren't breaking our backs to get it all done right away.  We both have busy schedules and work full time so taking our time to move things was welcomed.  Then I get an email asking if we can turn the keys in for the old unit 10 days before the end of the month so they can have time to paint and prepare it.  I explained that wont' likely be possible due to our schedules and other commitments.  I'm then told if not that day the keys have to be turned in the day after.  I understand they want to rent the unit ASAP, however they never mentioned to us wanting us to hand in the keys 10 days early.  Had they asked about that we could have determined a date and discussed us being compensated for those 10 days since we have paid until the end of the month. We're not completely unrealistic and would have been happy to come to an agreement with them.  However instead they have opted to give us a day's notice that they need the keys turned in before the end of the month. To be clear, I have changed my rating from 4 stars to 2 based on this more recent experience only.  Overall we're both really happy here: we like this building (it's clean and well maintained) and our neighbors.  Our supers are fantastic.  Any maintenance issues are dealt with quickly.  We like the close, community feel here and aren't willing to let these issues deter us from enjoying our home. Hopefully from here on our dealings with the rental office will be minimal.  Needless to say, all things dealing with this move have not been handled as professionally or as effectively as they could have been on their end.

I lived there for 3-4 years and enjoyed every minute of it. Amazing Superintendents who take great care of the building, its surroundings and tenants. Not many times in my professional or personal experience have I dealt with a group so inept or unprofessional. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this business. They are unqualified, disorganized, and have no clue about running a property management business. Choose from the other many reputable real estate management companies in Halifax.

Terrible. Be prepared to receive a notice of entry 6-10 times per year, for no reason. Then they send a non-employee in to search your apartment. The water was shut off for two weeks from 9-5 right before Christmas and is still shut off at least once a month.

Stay Away!! Worst rental experience ever!!I have been renting for approx. 13 years and 2 years in this specific building. I originally moved in here due to the location and proximity to the C-train. However no matter how convienent that may be it is not worth staying here!!! This has absolutely been the worst rental experience I've ever had. If you rent here do not count on ever getting any peace and quiet or relaxing in your own apt. Without worry about when staff will be coming in next. Every time you turn around try are needing in to your apartment for one thing or another. Nothing ever seems to be working. Thee hot water is always down and then maintenance has to come in and out for repairs. Or sometimes the water is down all together for the whole building. I had water leaking from my ceiling this week and the maintenance staff came loudly into my apartment while I was trying to sleep for work( I work nights) and then knocked on my bedroom door. For a woman living alone it is scary to have a group of strange men constantly coming in and out of your apartment. They have been coming in and out of my apartment all week and will be continuing to do so next week as well. And now on top of that they will having someone coming in next week doing something with the fire boxes and alarms. There must be some problem with the fire alarms in the building too because it seems like they are constantly having to set of fire alarms. Oh and when maintenance does enter they do no do so quietly, they come in talking loudly and making comments about your dirty dishes in the sink. I feel I have had absolutely no privacy living here and sometimes have to go to be fully clothed because I have no idea when they will come barging into my suite while I am sleeping. ( I work nights) Also the elevators are always broke down and I sometimes wait up to 15 mins for an elevator. Oh and forget about using the pool, it only seems to be open about a couple weeks of the year. And let's not forget the ridiculous rent increases. When first moved in my ret was $980. After the first term was up they increased my rent to $1040. The. When that second term was up it was increased to $1200!! That is a $220 increase in 2 years for a 1 bedroom apartment where everything is always broken and Inhave no privacy!!But worst of all is the management. They have absolutely zero flexibility with you when arranging when all of these maintenance people will be coming and going from your place. They put a sign on your door saying anytime between 9-5 and that's that. They are very rude and unhelpful. It wouldn't be such a problem but they seem to need to enter at LEASt once every 2 weeks. Anyway I would recommend that anyone stay far farrrrrr away from this place. I

The apartment complex is fairly reasonable and beautiful. It has all the modern conveniences that should be in all buildings considering we are in 2012. I have nothing against the building except for the step up to the tiny balcony. For a Senior Community Area. I think that is rather inconvenient. What I think is bad about this place is the leasing office. They are not all rude but one particular person is. If you are essentially non-white, I would not suggest that you visit this building because you and your background will not inspire the leasing agent to be civil nice and play fair. Anyone who is a non-white is considered a threat and do not know how to manage their financials. At least that is their assumption. :) I hope the management sees to it, though I'm guessing like most complaints, it may fall on dead ears. :)

Wow where do I start. I would like to let people know beware the assistant management as well the landlords. You can put in work orders till your blue but nothing will get done till you plan to move out. Also the infestation of insects or the fact that those who have pets such as dogs allow their flea ridden pets to deficate & roll all over your so called lawn only to spread it to others who have children or elderly. The rent will always go up each year by the same % & privacy doesn't exist the way they try to walk right into your home without being invited. They check your mailbox without permission. If you thought you could talk to the landlord privately you guessed wrong cause all the units end up knowing your buisness.

Despite its excellent location and general good appearance, this building has undergone a dramatic downturn in the past year. Elevator frequently not working (down 22 days in May), hot water erratic, no security or onsite property management, high incident of auto break-ins, noisy kids skateboarding and playing football in parking lot, etc. Frequent move-ins & outs due to poor management and non-competitive pricing. Seniors on site often intimidated by management who does not respond appropriately or in a timely fashion to requests (ie WHEN will the elevators be repaired? The hot water be restored? The front door entry system be repaired? The underground parking swept?). In sum, there are MANY far more suitable, affordable and well-managed properties in this area. I would not recommend to any individual who has mobility limitations, or to tenants who have security concerns.
